Split Bill Calculator
Split a bill and tip between friends, evenly or by what each person had.
How it works
Simple mode adds the tip to the bill and divides the total between the people. Uneven split first divides each item between the people who shared it, then shares the charges and the tip by each person's items subtotal. Everything is worked in whole cents, so the shares always add up.
tip = bill × tip% ÷ 100
final bill = bill + tip
per person = final bill ÷ people (whole cents)Example
A bill of ₹1,000 with a 10% tip is ₹100 of tip and a final bill of ₹1,100. Split between 3 people that is ₹366.67 each, but 3 × ₹366.67 is ₹1,100.01. So 2 people pay ₹366.67 and 1 pays ₹366.66, which adds up to exactly ₹1,100.
Common mistakes
- Tipping on a bill that already includes a service charge. If the tip is already in the bill, set the tip to 0%.
- Splitting evenly when one person had much more. Use Uneven split so nobody pays for someone else's order.
- Rounding every share up. Three shares rounded up add more than the bill; here the leftover cents are shared out so the total is exact.
About this calculator
Enter the bill, a tip percentage and the number of people to get the tip, the final bill and the amount per person. When the total does not divide evenly, a few people pay one cent (or paisa) more, so the shares add up to the bill exactly. The result says who pays what.
Uneven split is for when people ordered different things. Add the people, add each item with its price and tick who shared it. Tax or a service charge, and the tip, are shared out in proportion to each person's items, or the tip can be split equally. The tip is a percentage of the items subtotal, not of the charges. Names stay in the page and are not put in the link.
Frequently asked questions
How do I split a bill with tip?
Add the tip to the bill, then divide by the number of people. For ₹1,000 with a 10% tip between 3 people, the total is ₹1,100 and each share is about ₹366.67.
What if the total does not divide evenly?
The leftover cents are given out one each, so some people pay a cent more than others and the shares add up to the final bill exactly. The result shows how many people pay each amount.
How is the tip worked out in Uneven split?
It is the tip percentage times the items subtotal, before any tax or service charge. By default each person pays a share in proportion to their items. You can switch to splitting it equally.
How are tax and service charge shared?
In proportion to each person's items subtotal. Enter it as an amount or as a percentage of the items. If every item is zero it is split equally.
Does the currency change the amounts?
No. It only changes the symbol and, for yen, shows whole numbers. Nothing is converted.
