CGPA to Percentage Calculator

Convert CGPA or GPA to a percentage with CBSE, VTU, 10-point or custom formulas.

How it works

Choose a conversion method, then enter your CGPA. The calculator applies that method's formula and shows the percentage to two decimals, with the working underneath. Switch to % → CGPA to go the other way.

CBSE style: Percentage = CGPA × 9.5 10-point: Percentage = CGPA × 10 VTU: Percentage = (CGPA − 0.75) × 10 4-point GPA: Percentage = GPA ÷ 4 × 100 Custom: Percentage = CGPA × multiplier

Example

A CGPA of 8.2 is 8.2 × 9.5 = 77.9% with the CBSE multiplier. The same CGPA is (8.2 − 0.75) × 10 = 74.5% under the VTU formula, and 82% with a plain × 10.

Common mistakes

  • Using one formula for every institution. The same CGPA can give different percentages under different methods, so use the one your board or university publishes.
  • Entering a 10-point CGPA while the 4-point method is selected. The calculator rejects a grade above the scale instead of converting it.
  • Treating the result as an official equivalent. It is a calculation from a formula; it is not a certificate.

About this calculator

Boards and universities do not share one conversion formula, so this calculator lets you choose the method and shows the exact formula it used, with your number substituted in. Pick CBSE style (CGPA × 9.5), a simple CGPA × 10, VTU ((CGPA − 0.75) × 10), a 4-point linear scale, or enter the multiplier your own institution publishes.

It can also run backwards, from a percentage to a CGPA, for the methods that can be reversed. If a method gives a result above 100% or below zero, or a percentage that would need a grade above the top of the scale, the page says so instead of showing the number quietly. The result is a conversion, not an official equivalence: confirm the formula with your institution before putting it on an application.

Frequently asked questions

What is the formula to convert CGPA to percentage?

There is no single universal formula. CBSE publishes a multiplier of 9.5 for its 10-point grades (percentage = CGPA × 9.5). VTU uses (CGPA − 0.75) × 10. Some institutions simply multiply by 10. This calculator offers each of these and a custom multiplier, and shows which one it applied.

Is multiplying by 9.5 correct for my university?

Only if your university publishes it. The 9.5 multiplier is the one CBSE uses for its own grades. Many universities set their own formula, so check your institution's rules or ask the exam office.

How do I convert a 4.0 GPA to a percentage?

The 4-point option uses a simple linear scale: GPA ÷ 4 × 100, so 3.5 becomes 87.5%. That is a convenience calculation, not an official standard, and many US schools do not convert GPA to a percentage at all.

Can I convert a percentage back to CGPA?

Yes. Switch to % → CGPA and the calculator inverts the chosen formula, for example 77.9 ÷ 9.5 = 8.2 for CBSE style. If the answer lands above the top of the scale, such as 100% under the 9.5 multiplier (10.53), it is flagged because no real grade corresponds to it.
