PPF Calculator

Project a PPF balance year by year from your yearly deposit, rate and duration.

How it works

Enter the yearly deposit, the interest rate and the number of years. For each year the calculator adds the deposit to the opening balance, applies the year's interest to that total, and carries the closing balance into the next year.

closing = (opening + deposit) × (1 + rate) Maturity = closing balance of the final year

Example

₹1,50,000 a year for 15 years at an example 7% rate: deposits total ₹22,50,000, interest is ₹17,83,208 and the maturity amount is ₹40,33,208. That equals 1,50,000 × 1.07 × (1.07^15 − 1) ÷ 0.07.

Common mistakes

  • Using this tool's example rate as the current rate. Look up the rate that applies to you and type it in.
  • Assuming the figure is exact. Real PPF credits interest monthly on the lowest balance between the 5th and month end, so the actual amount depends on when you deposit.
  • Entering a duration below 15 years and reading it as a maturity. The scheme's lock-in is 15 years; shorter durations are only illustrations.

Results are estimates and are for informational purposes only.

About this calculator

Enter the amount you deposit each year, an interest rate and the number of years. You get the total deposits, the interest earned, the maturity amount and a table with the opening balance, deposit, interest and closing balance for every year. The default duration is 15 years, and you can go up to 50 to see extensions.

Interest rates are set by the government and can change. Enter the current rate from an official source such as India Post, your bank or the Ministry of Finance. The rate pre-filled here is an example rate, not a live rate. The calculation assumes the full deposit goes in at the start of each year and interest compounds once a year.

Frequently asked questions

Which interest rate should I enter?

The current PPF rate from an official source, such as India Post, your bank or the Ministry of Finance. The government sets the rate and it can change, so the value pre-filled here is just an example you should replace.

How does this calculator compound interest?

It assumes the whole yearly deposit is made at the start of the year and that interest is added once a year on (opening balance + deposit). Real PPF accounts credit interest monthly on the lowest balance between the 5th and the end of the month, so actual figures can differ slightly.

Is the yearly deposit limited?

The yearly deposit limit has been ₹1.5 lakh; check the current limit. This calculator shows a note if you enter more, but it still uses the amount you typed.

Why can I enter more than 15 years?

PPF accounts can be extended in blocks of 5 years after the initial 15, so the calculator accepts 1 to 50 whole years. Below 15 years the figure is only illustrative, because of the 15-year lock-in. Check the current extension rules before relying on a long projection.
